OSD means on-site detention. It is an underground tank. This tank takes the stormwater runoff from your place. Then, it lets the water go out slowly into the council pipes. The water is sent out at a controlled rate, not all at one time.
Here is why this is important. Every new building has more hard surfaces. A new roof, a concrete driveway, or a paved yard all make it worse. When it rains, the water goes straight into the street pipes. Before your house was built, the land would take in most of that water. Now it does not do that. Outlet design. The outlet is what controls how fast the water flows out. In most home OSD systems, there is a slotted pit or an orifice plate. The size of the outlet needs to be planned. If it is not the right size, the tank will not drain the right way. It might hold water for too long, or water might drain too fast for the system to work well.
